Saints celebrate year of firsts

By RUSSELL BENNETT

THE St Francis Xavier Saints’ inaugural season is now complete with the club’s 2015 presentation night taking place last Wednesday night.
In what was a wonderful celebration, all players received a trophy donated by Duffy & Simon Lawyers, and coach Simon van Dam spoke positively about the incredible development of each player across the season.
Team organiser Jen McKenna thanked the players’ parents for their support and enthusiasm, as well as all of the volunteers who’ve have helped to create such a welcoming and friendly environment.
She also acknowledged the wonderful contribution of Simon as coach and mentor to the players.
The Saints also held their Family Day morning tea last month as a way of acknowledging the tremendous support the club has received in its first year.
Paddy McKenna thanked a number of people in particular for their support and attendance, including FIDA general manager Logan Whitaker, board member Peter Fisher, Beaconsfield District Community branch manager Andrew Gardner, branch directors Maurie Potter and Greg Tomamichael, St Francis Xavier business manager Sonya Slocombe, and Chris Sueren – St Francis Xavier Old Collegians Football Club president.
He also acknowledged the support that has been provided by Cardinia Shire Council and Sport and Recreation Victoria via their grants programs.
These funds, along with the sponsorship generously provided by the Beaconsfield District Community Bank, enabled the Club to purchase all of the necessary equipment and uniforms to get the team up and running in the first place.
