WHILE the individual awards won’t make up for a disappointing end to the Big V season, the efforts of Casey Cavaliers’ three senior sides have been recognised by the association.
The nominees for the Big V Awards were announced on Tuesday afternoon with Casey men’s champion recruits Brent Hobba (Most Valuable Player) and Ben Louis (Defensive Player of the Year) leading the nominations for the Cavaliers.
Stewart Baird was surprisingly looked over as a nominee for Division 1 Men’s coach of the year, despite guiding a newly promoted side to the minor premiership, a 17-5 record and the finals.
Phil Thomas had no slight against him name with the Youth Men’s coach up for the equivalent award alongside star guard Alistair Parker (MVP) and Sean McKinnon (Defensive POTY)
In the women’s ranks, Natalie Dowdy picked up two nominations – MVP and Defensive Player of the Year – alongside back-court mainstay Samantha Johnson (Defensive POTY).
The awards will be announced at the Big V presentation night on 19 September.
