Home raid car thefts continue

By LACHLAN MOORHEAD

A MERCEDES Benz was stolen from inside a Berwick garage this month after yet another brazen home burglary in Casey.
An intruder is believed to have entered the Georgina Place house through an unlocked rear garage door overnight between 4 and 5 September before taking car keys from the kitchen, returning to the garage and driving off with the 2014 Mercedes, worth $55,000.
The car’s registration is ABH 097.
It is one of a spate of home burglaries in Casey in which thieves have broken into houses, often through unlocked doors, stolen keys and used them to make off with the occupants’ cars.
In the past two months, residents across Berwick and Cranbourne have fallen victim to the car-jacking bandits who sneak in to homes while families are asleep.
Detective Senior Sergeant John Bergin urged residents to ensure their house and car doors were locked.
“People have to be aware that there are people, irrespective that it’s winter and cold, looking to steal what they can,” he said.
“Do not leave keys visible on kitchen benches and be aware of secondary keys and make appropriate arrangements – because they will be back.”
Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or submit a confidential crime report at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
