On the yellow brick road to stardom

By GEORGIA WESTGARTH

TWO DOGS and 97 young performers from across the south-east are sure to delight audiences with their tale of the yellow brick road.
Weaving their own junior version of Royal Shakespeare’s, The Wizard Of Oz, Masquerade Talent Studio based in Berwick have young performers from Pakenham, Dandenong, Berwick and Cranbourne bringing the magical show to life.
Part owner of the studio and artistic director Carmen Powell said the big team of singers, dancers and actors had been rehearsing since March.
“Our Masquerade youth production is for performers aged four to 18 years old to showcase skills they’ve already learnt and mastered,” Ms Powell explained.
The 70-minute production of Dorothy’s adventure is a condensed version but with all the fun, intrigue and vibrancy of the film, Ms Powell said.
“It’s a vibrant, live, entertaining, fast paced, great display of our region’s young talent and also includes acrobatics,” she said.
All up, 270 youths auditioned for the musical, which will be shown at the Drum Theatre in Dandenong later this month.
“They had to sing, dance and act in the first audition and then we held call backs,” Ms Powell said of the extensive audition process.
