SPORTING all-rounder Amber Clarke just added another three reasons for loving football.
Clarke relished her footy opportunities last weekend as she was part of the Narre North Foxes Under-11 White premiership victory over Tooradin-Dalmore.
Her side had to fight back after the Seagulls’ early attack, but bit by bit the Foxes clawed their way back into the South East Juniors premiership hunt, with Clarke kicking a late goal to help seal the 26-point triumph.
“The first quarter we kicked the first goal and they caught up, then they were in front of us by eight points,” Clarke said.
“I kicked a goal and a point – kicked the goal in the last quarter but we started to get into the game in the second quarter.
For her individual efforts in the clash – working hard off half-back and through the midfield – Clarke was named the best on ground medallist.
“I’m extremely happy and I was pretty excited (to win the premiership and get the medal).”
She capped off the season with a best and fairest victory – polling 17 votes in the league’s biggest night of the year.
The fleet-footed Fox didn’t expect to pick up the best and fairest and especially didn’t want to make a speech afterwards, but she was thrilled to receive the honour.
“No not really – I was excited but nervous,” Clarke said. “I didn’t want to speak in front of all those people.”
Youth Girls football is on the horizon for Clarke, but for now she’ll return to the running track where she loves to pursue sprinting in little athletics.
Clarke wanted to thank her coach Dale Connolly, her Narre North team mates and her parents for taking her to games and supporting her.
