Council should look forward

Mayor Mick Moreland has officially informed Casey residents and ratepayers that council intends to reappoint Mike Tyler as our CEO from 21 March 2016.
This is very a disappointing decision for a number of compelling reasons.
The absence of any competitive selection process for the position of CEO means that we won’t necessarily have the best candidate for the job.
Leadership models are changing and Casey needs a new model of leadership that is capable of thinking outside of the conventional wisdom, parallel thinking.
Traditional models of leadership will be highly unlikely to deal successfully with the challenges facing Casey.
Rapid population growth and climate change are behind many of the problems now impacting on Casey.
These issues, however, require leaders with the capacity to hold community meetings with local residents.
Neither the mayor or CEO have attempted to engage Casey residents on the programs we will need for the 21 century to address the impact of growth and climate change on the quality of life in Casey.
Leadership today requires a lot more than financial management and reliance on vertical thinking.
Leaders in the 21st century need the capacity for parallel thinking.
