A MAN has pleaded to court for drug rehabilitation after being found hiding in a bedroom wardrobe in Beaconsfield in breach of an intervention order.
Mark Greg Cardamone, 24, faced a bail hearing at Dandenong Magistrates’ Court on Monday after being arrested by police earlier that morning.
Police informant Constable Rachel Aranha told the court Cardamone was allegedly in breach of an intervention order, which required him to stay 200 metres away from the Beaconsfield address.
Cardamone also had outstanding charges including failing to appear in court, breaching family violence orders protecting two people, and possession of GHB and ice.
He had also been allegedly intercepted with 100ml of GHB and drug paraphernalia in a car in Footscray on 3 April, though he told police he didn’t own the vehicle, the court heard.
After being transferred to Knox police station that day, Cardamone was allegedly found with 7.5 grams of ice in his underwear.
During questioning of the informant, Cardamone claimed he’d visited one of the prohibited addresses to collect his clothes because he hadn’t been served the order.
He told the court he’d like to go to rehab for cannabis, GHB and a “little bit of heroin”.
“As you know, I have a drug problem. I’ve been incarcerated twice. I’ve been all over the shop.
“It’s not getting any better. I’m going in for six months and it’s making me worse.”
Magistrate Julie O’Donnell noted Cardamone’s disregard for the “court system” including breaches of his bail and a previous community corrections order.
She deemed Cardamone had failed to “show cause” for bail, also noting his long criminal history and “numerous” matters currently before the court.
He was remanded in custody to appear at Dandenong Magistrates’ Court on 28 October.
