Ice-creams and mates help Seth celebrate

By GEORGIA WESTGARTH

EIGHT-year-old Seth Sleep took his last chemotherapy tablet on Saturday 10 October.
In the past five years Seth has endured 70 rounds of chemotherapy and is finally finished with the treatment.
But it won’t be until Seth turns 18 that he will truly be able to say he’s done with leukaemia.
Saturday marked day 1246 for Seth and his family’s battle with T-Cell acute lymphoblastic leukaemia, and to celebrate Seth’s last chemotherapy tablet the Sleeps put on a party at their home in Narre Warren.
With the help of the Yummo Ice Cream truck and a few mean mobiles from Corvettes of Melbourne, Seth celebrated the milestone among family and friends.
Seth’s parents, Simon and Nikki, said they were overwhelmed with emotion on the momentous occasion.
“We don’t know how to explain it,” they said.
But what really struck a chord with Simon was the fact this day was the start of a whole new beginning for his young son.
“Seth will still have blood tests and monthly visits to the Children’s Cancer Centre for at least one year, they will slowly become less and after about five years they will be twice a year,” Simon said.
“Eventually Seth will have annual visits until October 2025 when he’ll drive us on his P-plates to his last and finally post leukaemia check-up.”
After some ice-cream licking and a ride in the Corvettes, Seth had to decide what he would do with the funds raised through the ice-cream truck- choosing a cause close to his heart.
“Seth thought long and hard about what to do and decided to donate the $136.50 on behalf of A.J. from Yummo Ice Cream to Camp Quality,” Simon said.
Seth is now on the mend and hoping the medication access catheter in his neck will be removed by Christmas.
