NOW dotted with more than 300 houses the Kimberley Downs Estate in Narre Warren South was once a farm with just one homestead.
Then lined with peach trees and brangus cattle, the Davis family bought the 110 acres in 1972 – and for the past 10 years Monique Davis has been selling off large parcels of it.
“When I sell the blocks I don’t go into the fact that I grew up here and that the Davis family are the owners, developers and selling agents,” Ms Davis said.
With just 26 blocks left to sell, Ms Davis said she was proud of what her family had created.
“We’ve built a lake, wetlands, parkland and a playground and I’ve loved subdividing the land into big blocks,” she said.
Choosing to divide the 110 acres into blocks from 600 square metres to 1200 square metres was the family’s one desire – to ensure their estate stood out from the rest.
“We wanted to be able to subdivide it into an estate that we could be proud of with big blocks of land for big quality houses,” Ms Davis said.
“These last 26 blocks are special and unique because no other estates in the area have sold blocks as big as ours and we are pretty much the last bit of big land left in Narre Warren South,” she said.
With their vision strongly in mind the final blocks will be auctioned at 1pm on Saturday 17 October.
“It’s the first time we’ve auctioned this land but we wanted to give everyone the same opportunity,” Ms Davis said.
The estate currently has about 350 homes built on it and will eventually hold 385 – including the original homestead, which has been renovated.
Ms Davis said she will be feeling mixed emotions at the auction surrounded by the place her family called home for more than 40 years.
“As a child, Narre Warren South was just paddocks, dirt roads, farms and market gardens but as a family we are very proud of what Kimberly Downs has become,” she said.
