Bill makes his mark

By LACHLAN MOORHEAD

A CASEY icon and Berwick stalwart has been immortalised after a popular rotunda was officially named in his honour this week.
The Bill Minns Rotunda, in Pioneers Park, was officially unveiled by the Casey Council on Wednesday 21 October, with mayor Mick Morland joining Berwick Rotary Club president Geoff Double to officially rename the structure and reveal its new plaque.
Cr Morland gave a heartfelt speech about his good friend Bill Minns, who has lived in Berwick his entire life, and is the only living charter member of the Rotary Club of Berwick, started in 1961.
Bill, who also took over as Rotary president from 1969-1970, is the longest serving member of the club, having clocked up 55 years.
“Bill was an active committee member of the Berwick State School, volunteer firefighter and was instrumental in raising funds to build the ‘demo track’ at Akoonah Park,” Cr Morland said.
“Bill was also a member of the Berwick Progress Association, Berwick Village Chamber of Commerce, Berwick Football Club and Volunteer Defence Corps.”
The Bill Minns Rotunda can be visited at Pioneers Park, in Peel Street, Berwick.
