Spate of big home burglaries

By LACHLAN MOORHEAD

POLICE are investigating a series of burglaries throughout Narre Warren North within the last month where big homes have been being targeted, all around dinner time.
Nine houses in Narre Warren North and Lysterfield have been ransacked between 27 September and 25 October, with thieves making off with jewellery, mobile phones and computer tablets.
While all the burglaries have occurred between 8pm and 11pm at night, none of the houses were raided while occupants were inside.
Police believe a considerable amount of surveillance is being carried out before the burglaries, and Detective Senior Constable Michelle Chiang warned residents to be wary of doorknockers.
“This is the time when people are having dinner, watching TV, or putting the kids to bed, which is a real concern for us,” Detective Senior Constable Michelle Chiang said.
Big homes are specifically being targeted, with houses in Fox Road in Narre Warren North among those hit.
A dark van or wagon has been seen at the time of the burglaries.
“They are hitting the bigger properties,” Det Sen Const Chiang said.
“They’re hitting big homes at unusual times when people are usually home – it’s quite brazen.
“We need to identify these people and nip this in the bud.”
