Department crowns King Kids

By GEORGIA WESTGARTH

OPENING in January this year Narre Warren’s King Kids kindergarten and learning centre is already the best in Casey.
The centre for 12-week-old infants up to five-year-olds underwent a two day in-house assessment by the Department of Education and Training last month and took home the highest score possible.
“We exceeded in all seven areas that were assessed,” kindergarten teacher, Debbie Kelly said.
“It was a shock to get all of the areas, but we work really hard and were always laughing which filters down to the families and children and we are confident in what we do here every day.”
King Kids was one of two Casey childcare centres to take home the high rating, and Ms Kelly puts it down to the natural and wholesome feel of the centre- where there’s an option the centre goes green and all natural.
“We have a chook pen and the chooks interact and walk around with the children which is another experience for them,” Ms Kelly said.
Along with the fresh free range eggs used in the onsite kitchen, the children also get to help look after the vegie patch, herb pots, bunny rabbit and recyclable rainwater, which is used to water the grass.
With sustainability at their forefront, the fresh feeling play space is at 70 per cent capacity.
“We have room to take in more children and meeting these seven areas of excellence is a really big achievement for us,” Ms Kelly said.
