NARRE Warren South MP Judith Graley is warning Casey residents to be on the lookout for travelling conmen as the “peak season” for trickery approaches.
“We know that summer is the peak season for travelling conmen who will often ask for upfront payments and either take the money and run or leave the job unfinished,” Ms Graley said.
She said these conmen often posed as dodgy tradesmen knocking on the doors of homes, farms and small businesses, offering to do maintenance work with cheap ‘today only’ deals.
They are known to often target seniors, vulnerable consumers and residents who speak little or no English.
“If it just doesn’t feel right I urge local residents to say no and report these scam artists by phoning the national travelling conmen hotline on 1300 133 408 or to local police,” Ms Graley said.
The MP’s warning comes as Star News earlier this week reported on a conman who stole $9000 after posing as a tyre salesman in Dandenong.
