Thief puts squeeze on for mobile phone

By GEORGIA WESTGARTH

A MEMBER of the public was put into a headlock before their mobile phone was demanded on a bike track in Narre Warren.
The incident took place on Friday 13 November at about 3pm when the victim was walking along Summerlea Road and the Monash Freeway toward Westfield Fountain Gate.
The offender – described as in his late twenties wearing a light blue hoody and tracksuit pants – rushed at the victim from behind and fled with the mobile phone.
Police urge everyone to be conscious when walking on their own and to keep valuables out of site.
Senior sergeant Rodney Maroney said people walking alone especially at night “become soft targets” for impulsive crime.
