IT WAS a defining moment when a Narre Warren artist gave her WWI painting to the Turkish Consulate as a token of goodwill.
Gabriele Jenkins, a member of the Casey-based Provenance Artists, has given her painting to Turkish Consul-General Mehmet Kucuksakalli, which depicts an Australian soldier actually helping the Turkish soldier he is fighting against.
The painting was based on a real photograph, which shows an Australian soldier giving a drink to his Turkish counterpart.
Provenance Artists president Calvin Bell said the Turkish Consul-General was overwhelmed by the gesture.
“It is through amazing feats such as this that the incredible relationship between Australia and Turkey has flourished and endured to be even stronger today,” he said.
