THREE litres of fuel and a lighter discovered by walkers in Lysterfield Park have sparked concerns that the area could have gone up in flames.
The matter was reported to police and Parks Victoria.
On 3 October, Grand Final Day, two walkers found a petrol container with at least three litres of fuel and a lighter next to Valley View Track near the Hallam North Road entry to the park.
No one was spotted at the scene.
The petrol and lighter were removed from the bushland, and reported to the park, CFA and later investigated by police.
The incident was released to the News this week under Freedom of Information (FOI).
Gembrook MP Brad Battin said it is deeply disturbing to think someone intended to light a fire in the park, further urging people with information about suspicious fire activity to speak up.
“This is a reminder to the community to be vigilant and report any suspicious behaviour.”
Police urge anyone with information about suspicious fire activity are urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
