THIS month will see the formation of Casey Council’s new Community Safety Advisory Committee.
The City of Casey resolved to establish the committee at its 15 December meeting following a consultation with Casey Police Inspector Paul Breen.
At the meeting, Springfield Ward councillor Louise Berkelmans said setting up the committee was an opportunity to bring together law enforcement agencies, emergency services and relevant community members to “continue making Casey a safe place”.
“It makes sense to have appropriately qualified, locally based organisations collaborating on issues of public safety, amenity, emergency response, disease prevention and crime-related matters,” she said.
“By developing an all-agency approach to community safety, we will enhance information sharing, dispel rumours and more accurately determine real local safety issues and how to best manage them.
“The committee will begin meeting in February, and we can look forward to applying a whole of government approach to community safety.”
The committee will be set up in conjunction with council’s Community Safety Strategy, which aims to contribute to the improved safety, health and well-being of local residents.
