Serious money spent on play

By LACHLAN MOORHEAD

A NEW playground will soon be built in Casey, while council is also planning the refurbishment of three others.
Casey Council is set to build a new local level playground at Sambur Road Reserve in Tooradin, and will also revamp the existing playgrounds at Cairns Road Reserve in Hampton Park, Timbertop Reserve in Berwick, and one on the Tooradin foreshore.
“The City of Casey effectively plans for existing and future playground sites within the municipality to ensure that they continue to reflect the needs and interests of local families,” Casey mayor Sam Aziz said.
“The council consulted with nearby residents at each site on the kind of features they would like included in their playgrounds and their feedback has been incorporated into the final designs.”
Sambur Road Reserve will be home to a new $80,000 playground which will include a fort with different slides, rock walls and swings.
Meanwhile Casey Council will also invest $480,000 to refurbish the three existing district level playgrounds, with $160,000 going into each site.
The Cairns Road Reserve Playground will consist of two separate areas with balancing and climbing elements, different slides and swings and shade sails.
The Timbertop Reserve Playground will resemble a kid’s cubby, including a five-seat satellite swing and a tornado basket swing, while the Tooradin Foreshore Playground will have a coastal theme which consists of a large lighthouse structure built on three levels.
“Signs have been erected at each of the sites showcasing the plans of the new look playgrounds and their features, so I encourage residents to check them out,” Cr Aziz said.
The council has released design photos of the Sambur Road Reserve and Cairns Road Reserve playgrounds.
