Luke reunited with rescuers

By LACHLAN MOORHEAD

A YEAR on from his ‘miracle’ rescue, Narre Warren boy Luke Shambrook was reunited with his rescuers.
At just 11 years of age, Luke spent four nights lost in bushland near Lake Eildon over last year’s Easter break.
Luke’s mum Rachel Shambrook recalled the terrifying hours, thinking her son may be gone forever and the overwhelming joy she felt when her son was returned back into her arms.
“It really was a miracle,” she said at the one-year reunion event on Monday 11 April.
The black, long sleeve jumper he wore during those treacherous, cold nights was framed – still with dirt on it.
The memorial frame will be hung at Knox police station.
Luke went missing on 3 April last year after he became separated from his family in Fraser National Park near Lake Eildon.
Emergency services, volunteers and the community pulled together to co-ordinate a search which lasted five days, ending in his rescue by the Victoria Police Air Wing on 8 April.
