Wendy’s no rolling stone

By CAM LUCADOU-WELLS

WENDY Costa-Davis, of Narre Warren South, has defied all the trends to keep her one and only job for the past 40 years.
During that time, she has been at the front of Murray House medical clinic first in Dandenong and then in Clyde Road, Berwick.
Ms Costa-Davis was a Lyndale High School teenager when she was first interviewed to be a ‘girl Friday’ at the clinic.
At first, the mere mention of blood made her freeze.
She then worked her way up the ladder as a file clerk, receptionist, accounts clerk and medical administrator – mainly learning on the job.
“You pick things up like the personalities of the different doctors and know what they want.
To mark the 40-year milestone, Ms Costa-Davis was treated to a meal out with the “girls” at the clinic, and taken out for a feed with her husband and the doctors.
“I like the work and the patients. My husband and I never had children, so I never had to stop work and start again.
“It doesn’t feel like 40 years.
“I just go to work each morning. But when you stop and think, it’s a lot.”
