Who’s Who of geeks is no joke

By Cam Lucadou-Wells

CASEY’S own self-described “geek and nerd haven” is returning to Narre Warren on 24 September.
After drawing a crowd at Deza-Con-1, the sequel Deza-Con-2 will host comic book, collectable toy stalls as well as the Doctor Who Club of Victoria.
Members of Transformers Collectors Club Australia and Melbourne Toys, Comics and Video Games will also be there.
Organiser Roy Condeza said he was expecting a 400-plus crowd, many dressed up as their favourite cult heroes and villains.
“That’s what creates the whole vibe. You get a rush from it and enjoy socialising with people doing the same thing without being harassed and being put down.”
Mr Condeza said the Doctor Who fans – or Whovians – were sure to dress up in a range of characters from the serial’s 50-plus year history.
During the event, visitors can pose for photos with The Joker and The Harlequin, he said.
All proceeds from refreshment sales will go to local charity Mums Supporting Families in Need.
It is at Narre Warren Community Learning Centre in Narre Warren on 24 September, 10am-4pm. Entry $5, under 12s free.
