In the pink with $2000

By Victoria Stone-Meadows

THE ninth annual Pink Ribbon Fund-raiser at the Hampton Park Bowls Club raised over $2000 for breast cancer research on Thursday 6 October.
More than 100 guests filled the clubrooms for the annual luncheon but interest was much higher and the club had to turn people away due to a lack of space.
Breast cancer survivor Dawn Leicester was guest speaker at the event who shared her experience of the illness and the positive support she received from friends and family.
MP for Narre Warren South Judith Grayley was also in attendance and said she was very impressed by the large turnout of people at the event.
The audience was entertained by the club’s resident Elvis Presley, Peter Hayden, and four bowls club members formed a musical tribute group to ABBA called “NABBA”.
Hampton Park Bowls Club Chairperson Neville Hendrie said the fund-raiser was an event the whole club could be proud of.
“Each year the entire club gets involved to make this event such a successful day,” he said.
“The men who help set the tables; blow up balloons and whatever else is required and the ladies are just a wonderful team who work together without fuss, and so do an absolutely amazing job.
“A big thankyou to everyone,” he said.
Over nine years of fund-raising for the Breast Cancer Network of Australia, the Hampton Park Bowls Club has raised over $13,000.
The club is hopeful they can hold their 10th annual fund-raising event next year in new and improved clubrooms.
