Two charged over copper thefts

A HAMPTON Park man and woman have been charged with theft after stealing about $30,000 worth of insulated copper wire over the course of a weekend.
Police executed a search warrant on a house on Oaktree Drive in Hampton Park on Tuesday 18 October where they uncovered about 50 or 60 lengths of copper wire insulation.
The copper itself had already been removed from the insulating casing and sold on.
It is believed the a 33-year-old man stole the copper wire from an industrial supply store in two to three metre lengths over Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 October, stealing up to 10 lengths at a time.
The man was charged with theft, theft from a motor car, and drug offences and he was remanded in custody to appear at the Dandenong Magistrates’ Court on Monday 21 November.
A 30-year-old female also found at the house was charged with theft and drug offences and bailed to appear at the Dandenong Magistrates’ Court on Thursday 24 November.
