Motorists out for a drive on New Year’s Day failed to stop to help a man who was seriously assaulted on the corner of Narre Warren – Cranbourne Road and Fleetwood Drive in Narre Warren.
The 34-year-old victim and his girlfriend of the same age had travelled into the city on the train for the New Year’s Eve fireworks and were walking home about 3.15am on Sunday 1 January.
The occupants of a silver or green Commodore sedan called to the pair as they approached the intersection.
The man approached the car and was assaulted by the male during which he was knocked backwards into the right lane of the road.
Cars drove around the man on the road as the male and female in the car grabbed the female victim by the arms and demanded that the pair hand over their mobile phones and bags.
The male victim was left with a broken wrist and required surgery while the female victim was bruised.
The male attacker was described as Maori or Samoan in appearance with long dark hair and facial hair.
The female attacker was described as Maori or Samoan with a larger build and long dark hair which was tied back. She was wearing a striped maxi dress.
Police are asking any witnesses who may have seen the incident or the car to contact the Narre Warren Crime Investigation Unit on 9705 3111.
