Casey Council’s customer service centre in Narre Warren South will be closed in the name of efficiency from the end of 2017.
Mayor Sam Aziz said the closure stemmed from feedback from the Casey People’s Panel for the council to deliver services more effectively and efficiency.
“While we understand the Narre Warren South Customer Service Centre may be the preferred centre for some of our residents to visit, it is ultimately providing a localised service to only a small proportion of our municipality,” Cr Aziz said.
“Therefore is not reflective of a fair and equitable service that is in the best interest of the broader city.”
The council was “evolving” with its Digital Casey Strategy, transferring 16 services into a convenient, online option, Cr Aziz said.
“While there will be some small savings for council as a result of closing the centre, the real savings will come through a more efficient allocation of staffing resources to our higher volume channels such as telephone and other service centres.”
The service centre at Amberley Park Shopping Centre will cease at close-of-business on 30 December.
The nearest alternative service centres are at Narre Warren and Cranbourne.
