Repairs to a notoriously uneven section of Narre Warren-Cranbourne Road have been further delayed.
The $2.5 million works were expected to start on the road section south of Norfolk Drive, Narre Warren, as soon as late 2016, subject to investigating the cause of the road’s severe undulations.
Works were revised to start in September after South East Water repaired a pipe on the eastern side of the road.
However, they have been put back until December, with a completion date of early 2018.
VicRoads reported that the issue was due to a “complex” mixture of ground conditions, inadequate drainage and a broken sewer pipe.
South East Water has denied the 45-metre section of sewer pipe caused damage to the road.
VicRoads metro south east operations director Michael Barker said works were further delayed while awaiting a “utility provider” to complete the underground pipe works.
“These works are now complete, and we’re getting on with resurfacing Narre Warren-Cranbourne Road.”
The deteriorated road, which was subject to heavy flooding in 2011, had become notorious for stressing the suspensions and shock absorbers of vehicles.
VicRoads reduced the section’s speed limit from 80km/h to 60km/h due to safety concerns more than two years ago.
