Keen young readers had a ‘screamer’ of a time with Specky Magee author Felice Arena at Bunjil Place Library.
The popular children’s writer congratulated some of the top bookworms taking part in Summer Reading Club in Casey and Cardinia Shire.
“If we can jumpstart a life-long love of reading then I’m there,” he said.
“Events like Summer Reading Club foster a whole new generation of readers and we need even more events like this.”
About 800 children from eight Casey-Cardinia Libraries branches took part in the 2017-18 event.
Libraries chief executive Chris Buckingham said the event encouraged young people to read for enjoyment, not just for school.
The club is a free national program led by the State Library of Queensland.
