Children were put into lockdown at Fountain Gate Secondary College this afternoon after the school received a threatening call.
A police spokeswoman said at about 2.30pm a young child phoned the school “and spoke with someone.”
Details of any threat were unknown, she said, however police attended and conducted a safety check. Police say all students and staff were deemed safe.
In a message posted on Facebook, the college principal Pete Hanratty said the school received a threatening phone call which turned out to be a hoax.
“I can assure you we are taking this seriously. We immediately notified the police and enacted our emergency management plan, and the police attended our school,” she said in the message.
“I would like to thank our students and staff for the calm and efficient manner in which they conducted themselves”
Ms Hanratty said all children and staff were well. “Like all schools, we have an emergency management plan in place for situations like this, and we practice it throughout the year”.
“The safety and wellbeing of our students is always our top priority.”
One person posted on Facebook’s Casey Crime Page of a text message screen they received from the school, which stated the school was in “lockdown” at 2.36pm.
The message also said: “Please do not approach the school to collect your children.”
