Berwick resident Johanna Steendam has celebrated her 100th birthday with a wealth of family and friends.
Ms Steendam with her three children Casey, John and Doetje – all keen Bulldogs supporters – partied with many others at the Berwick Inn on 29 April.
She received congratulatory letters from Queen Elizabeth II, Governor-General Peter Cosgrove and Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull ahead of the milestone on 1 May.
Other correspondence arrived from local MPs, City of Casey and the High Commissioner at the Dutch Embassy in Sydney.
They had migrated from Holland in 1950
Her vast family includes 17 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren and a great, great grandchild.
She is no stranger to local media, featured with late husband Jack for their diamond (60th) wedding anniversary in The Dandenong Journal on 9 February 1998.
The couple had run a garage in Caulfield for many years, with Jack as the mechanic and Johanna serving on the petrol pumps.
She also volunteered at Spring Valley Golf Club’s kitchen.
