Casey Crime Investigation Unit is appealing for witnesses after a vehicle was allegedly set alight in Narre Warren on Wednesday 25 April.
Firefighters were called to a walking track between Wattle Bird Court and Princes Freeway at around 10.20am to find the car well alight.
Crews from Narre Warren and Hallam fire brigades brought the fire under control by 10.30am, a CFA spokesman said.
Police also attended the scene, and discovered the vehicle had been stolen from a Frankston address just a few days earlier, but there was no sign of anyone with the car.
Senior Constable Alison Johnson said the red Nissan Pulsar with registration plates FJT286, was observed being driven on Collins Close in Berwick shortly before it was dumped behind Wattle Bird Court and engulfed in flames.
“The fire spread to nearby grass and fence lines,” she said.
She said a man and woman were allegedly seen with the vehicle prior to it being set alight.
The man is described as about six foot tall, caucasion and aged in his 20s. The woman is described as caucasion and aged in her 30s.
Anyone with information about the incident are urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000
