Robocup players show their mettle

In the spirit of the World Cup, 12 ‘Lodgers’ students from Berwick Lodge Primary School took on the state’s best young talent in soccer robotics.

Not to mention a dancing robot competition and rescue-robot section.

The three teams of Years 5 and 6 STEM students excelled in the RoboCup Junior Australia regional comp at Ballarat on 6 June.

The Riley Rescue team placed third, the soccer team made the semi-finals and the dance team finished second.

Robotics teacher Rob Kelly said the competition helped students understand the importance and inter-connection of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) subjects.

“The Lodgers really enjoyed the competition – despite the early start and late finish.”

The Lodgers will take part in state finals in August.
