Civic past comes crashing down

By Cam Lucadou-Wells

The vacated Casey Civic Centre is just a shell of its former self during recent demolition works.

The facility and the next door former library are making way for a 79-space car park.

Casey’s Bunjil Place Close Out Projects manager Mark Dibsdale said longer-term plans for the site would be later considered and decided by the council “in close consultation” with the community.

The $2 million works including bulk earthworks and re-establishing the area for public use were expected to finish by the end of 2018.

“The demolition works are in full swing and we are continuing to work hard to ensure that there is minimal disruption to our visitors and the community,” Mr Dibsdale said.

The civic centre was originally built in 1978 with further works in 1984.

Both facilities have been moved to the nearby $125 million Bunjil Place.
