School holiday science fun

Science for Preschoolers (SEP) school holiday workshops are coming to the south east suburbs for the first time this spring school holidays from the 1 to 3 October in Narre Warren.

This will be a wonderful opportunity for the children of the south east to experience the wonderful world of science first hand.

Science for Preschoolers (SFP) is an organisation based in Melbourne’s east that provides educational and engaging hand-on science programs to children aged three to eight through weekly classes, incursions to early learning centres and schools across Melbourne and school holiday workshops.

The programs are designed by qualified scientists that have extensive experience with children.

All the programs focus on the three fundamental sciences being earth, physical and life science.

The SFP mission is to provide the highest quality science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematical (STEAM) education to children with a focus on developing life skills including logical reasoning, planning and predicting, problem solving, communication, teamwork, listening and observation, memory and recall.

“These skills can help improve the child’s self-confidence and self-esteem, all of which can encourage independence,” co-founder Joelle Dharmakumara said.

“Ultimately, helping the child prepare for the years ahead.”

Science for Preschoolers was founded by husband and wife Mahesh and Joelle Dharmakumara.

“We are both professional scientists with over 10 years’ experience in addition to qualifications in psychology,” Mrs Dharmakumara said. “We also have four young children whom all love to do fun science experiments at home with us.

“Thus, we have brought our two passions of science and children together to create Science for Preschoolers.”

Science for Preschoolers has become so popular that the couple has expanded their education services to primary schoolers as ‘Science for Schoolers’ since there is such a strong need for STEAM education for both preschool and primary school aged children.
