An elected Liberal Nationals Government will contribute $600,000 towards a new synthetic soccer pitch for the Berwick Churches Soccer Club (BCSC).
The BCSC is a Christian based soccer club, administered by volunteers. It fields teams in Kick Start, all junior age groups and both men’s and women’s seniors in the Victorian Churches Football Association.
“Sport and recreation play a vital role in the Berwick community,” Liberal candidate for Narre Warren South Susan Serey said.
“As the local candidate, I am very pleased to make this election commitment to help local clubs develop better recreation facilities and provide more opportunities for local residents to play and enjoy sport.
“This upgrade will ensure that the Berwick sports precinct can be enjoyed by the local community for many years to come.”
The philosophy of the club is not to turn members away and in particular, it wishes to reach out to the South Sudanese youth and local community who love soccer. A synthetic soccer pitch would enable the club to cater for more players, games and teams.
“The Liberal Nationals have long supported the fantastic sporting achievements by Berwick Churches Soccer Club and are committed to working with local councils, clubs and communities to develop good quality, local facilities that bring more people together through sport,” shadow minister for sport Danny O’Brien said.
