Pushing trolleys for a very special cause

This week, Coles team members will push a trolley across Victoria to raise enough money to fund a team of Doctors at Victoria’s only children’s hospice run by Very Special Kids.

For the second consecutive year, team members from Coles Services will take turns to push a giant modified trolley into towns across the state to raise funds for the important cause.

To coincide with the trolley push over the next two weeks, Coles will also sell $2 donation cards at 69 supermarkets in Victoria to support Very Special Kids including at Coles in Casey Central, Endeavor Hills, Fountain Gate and Berwick Central.

Casey will be four of 44 locations across the state to host the trolley as it makes its way to more than 35 towns and suburbs across Victoria.

Very Special Kids runs a children’s hospice and specialised family support services from diagnosis to bereavement, supporting over 900 families who have a child with a life-threatening condition in Victoria.

Coles Services Area Manager Michael Thompson, who championed the Trolley Push last year, said Coles is delighted to support important services for families and children in need.

“Our very first trolley push helped to raise around $100,000 for Very Special Kids last year,” Mr Thompson said.

“It was fantastic to see the community get involved with so many locals joining us on the walk.

“I’m excited to see Coles team members rally behind the cause with such passion again this year.”

Whilst the Very Special Kids Hospice is based in Malvern, the children’s charity provides support to all of Victoria with offices and counsellors in Brunswick, Ballarat, Bendigo, Hastings, Pakenham, Port Fairy, Shepparton and Torquay.

Very Special Kids CEO Michael Wasley says the hospice is predominantly self-funded through donations and costs more than $8.5 million to operate each year.

“We are exceptionally grateful to receive support from Coles Services and Coles Supermarkets again this year,” he said.

“All funds raised during the Trolley Push will go directly towards supporting over 900 families facing the unimaginable.”
