From Africa to Berwick

By Tanaka Nyamvura

The Watoto children’s choir are fighting AIDS and poverty one continent at a time and their next stop will be in Australia.

They will be performing in Berwick on 14 October as part of their six month Australian tour. Watoto Children’s Choirs tour the world annually as advocates for the 18 million African children currently orphaned by AIDS.

The concerts are free and open to members of the public and are an opportunity to provide awareness and present opportunities for sponsorship and donations to fund projects in Uganda.

The choir was formed in 1994 and comprises of 18 orphans from Uganda who share songs and stories of the hope they have because of God’s love.

This year the choir will be performing songs from their new hit album “Signs and Wonders”.

Ivan Masembe is excited to be part of the Watoto Children’s Choir, touring Australia in 2018.

“I hope to see kangaroos and look forward to meeting people at the different places we’ll be performing,” Mr Masembe said.

The tour also provides experience for cultural exchange and an opportunity for the wider community to meet children who are less fortunate than our own here in Australia.
