Volunteers celebrate 79 years

A significant presentation went to Edie Smith, long time resident of Narre Warren North.

Narre Warren North Red Cross branch has just celebrated its 79th birthday at the Girl Guide Hall, Narre Warren North, with support from other branches around the region, also many Narre Warren North residents and friends.

This branch of the Red Cross was established at the start of the Second World War and has been active over the entire time.

“It was an enjoyable afternoon with presentations of service badges to two members,” Margaret Luxford said.

“A significant presentation went to Edie Smith, long-time resident of Narre Warren North. Edie was awarded her 60 year rose service jewel, a wonderful effort.

“Edie has been a staunch member of the Branch over these 60 years and has always been to the fore whenever catering and fundraising was carried out. Also an excellent cake maker and until recently made the branch’s birthday fruit cake, always a winner.”

Two members, Leslie Taylor and Sue Elliott, tested visitors with thought provoking quizzes. This proved to be a very noisy and fun exercise after which afternoon tea was served.

The branch extends thanks to all who contributed to their birthday meeting.

Should anyone be interested in joining the Branch they will be made most welcome. Meetings are held on the first Thursday of each month at the Girl Guide Hall, Memorial Avenue, Narre Warren North, starting at 1pm. Come along.
