State-of-the-art tech school opens its doors

Casey Tech School (CTS) was officially opened on Tuesday, 16 October, providing local students with a shared learning facility that will deliver hi-tech, leading-edge courses.

At CTS, students from 21 secondary schools in the region will have access to programs that focus on health, medical and biomedical technology, and high-tech manufacturing.

The state-of-the-art facilities include a biomedical laboratory, a robotics and virtual reality laboratory, and video production and digital media studios.

Chisholm CEO Dr Rick Ede said the facility was the result of a partnership between Chisholm, the state government, local industry and schools.

“We want to ensure that every student has the opportunity to access world class learning right here in Casey,” he said.

“The expertise of our STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) educators will be of significant benefit to the 22,000 students from across the region who will have access to these new facilities and the training developed by Chisholm.”

Located at Chisholm’s Berwick campus, CTS director Ben Jenkinson said the new facility offered free access to programs aligned with growing industries in the region.

“Casey Tech School has been co-designed with industry and the community to help students to develop the skills and experience needed to prosper in a rapidly changing world,” Mr Jenkinson said.

“By undertaking hands-on projects with inquiry based learning, students will develop skills in design, collaboration and critical and creative thinking using a range of the latest health and medical technologies, as well as high-tech manufacturing equipment.”

Member for Narre Warren North Luke Donnellan said, “People in Casey deserve access to the best training facilities – we’ll give local students the skills they need to get a good job.”

Minister for Education James Merlino visited Chisholm’s Berwick campus to officially open the facility on Tuesday, which is one of 10 Tech Schools in Victoria.

“Casey Tech School will give students access to the latest technology and a chance to work on solving real-life problems provided by industry,” Mr Merlino said.
