Q and A with Catherine Smith

Berwick photographer Catherine Smith.

What is something people don’t know about you? I’ve always been passionate about life and I don’t want to miss any opportunity. So right now I’m a full time student studying photography, a mother of two, I work at the bank and I operate my own photography business. This wouldn’t be a possibility without the love and support from my husband and family, I’m just lucky and determined to succeed in life.

What was your most memorable moment? Giving birth to my little ones, I think any mother would agree. It might have not been bliss at the time but it was certainly a memorable moment that I will never forget.

What’s was best thing about being the event photographer for the VIP fashion show in Berwick last week? The best thing was to collaborate with the local businesses. I felt proud to work alongside amazing people including proud owner Lisa Moore from Little Blackbird who gave me this opportunity. I strongly believe it was a success and the overall message was delivered which was shop local, be local and love local.

What is your favourite movie? I’m a sucker for love movies and then the complete opposite, horrors. Strange I know! Unfortunately I love watching movies way too much that I simply don’t have one favourite movie to share.

If you could photograph anyone in the world dead or alive who would it be and why? Good question, there’s so many memorable people I would love to photograph but the top person would have to be Marilyn Monroe. To be the most popular sex symbols of the 1950’s era, a famous actress, model and singer. Her story impels me as she lived most her life in foster homes and then strived to become a well-recognised star. I could imagine taking amazing photographs of Marilyn, well it’s a dream now.

At school I … hated maths but ended up having a degree in business and commerce and a career as a bank manager! Go figure…

Favourite holiday spot in Australia? Eden, NSW the most gorgeous bay I’ve ever visited in Australia. It was so scenic with sapphire blue waters and as a photographer the views and whale watching was simply magic!

Which five dinner guests dead or alive, would you invite to dinner? Robin Williams, comedian as he would of had me in hysterics, George Calombaris, chef for food tips, Channing Tatum- Magic Mike simply for entertainment, Mark Zukergerg- just because and Anne Geddes for newborn photography tips and networking.

What do you love about photography? Life’s too short, so if I can capture that moment in that time that will make that memory last, then I’ve achieved my goal. I simply enjoy what I do and I love the creativity that you can achieve with photography.

Best concert you have been to? Jimmy Barnes, I love Aussie rock artists and his voice is definitely one of a kind. That night was even more memorable as I shared it with amazing friends, we drunk, we sang and we laughed. Simple joys of life but unforgettable!
