Consultation between Casey Council, Doveton College and private investors is continuing to take place to identity partnership opportunities for Doveton Swimming Pool.
“The pool is a very precious asset to the people of Doveton, but they don’t always use it and that’s a bit of a problem,” Cr Wayne Smith said.
“Doveton College are really keen to partner with council to reactivate that whole area, including the pool.
“Doveton College would be the most community focused school in our city and possibly in the whole South-East.”
Doveton College is located next to the Doveton Swimming Pool.
Cr Smith said council is “not trying to get rid of having a pool there but it might take a different form”.
A report, called the Draft Casey Aquatic Facilities Strategy is currently being developed by Casey Council and is anticipated to be completed and presented in February next year.
“We believe and hope that it (the strategy) will have lots of opportunities to revitalise the Doveton Pool,” he said.
“Hopefully that whole area will be good for everyone in the community and beyond but also the Doveton College community which is a very worthy partner.”
Extensive consultation has taken place with 1200 online surveys completed, internal and external workshops and various meetings held with key stakeholders.
