Fun day for all abilities

The Life Skills for Community Living class from Narre Community Learning Centre visited Bunjil Place to celebrate the International Day of People with Disability on Thursday, 29 November.

Students had the opportunity to go on a tour of the entire complex, which covered seeing the theatre, the recording studio, the art gallery, the library and the function rooms.

The theatre was a new experience for two or three of the students and the computers and PlayStation were attractive features of the library.

The visit ended with coffee and relaxation at Bunjil Place’s café.

“The students participated in the tour enthusiastically and said that they would visit Bunjil Place again,” Narre Warren Learning Centre literacy co-ordinator Clea Nicol said.

International Day of People with Disability is observed annually.

This year’s theme was about inclusiveness, equality and empowering people with disabilities.

Students in the Life Skills for Community Living class attend the program to improve their literacy, numeracy, employability and communication skills.

“This tour was a wonderful chance to apply those skills in a real community context,” Ms Nicol said.

“Narre Community Learning Centre wishes to thank Bunjil Place for their partnership in celebrating this important day.”
