Fountain Gate Secondary College in Narre Warren has united in a sea of colour for this year’s Cultural Diversity Week festivities.
Staff and students gathered on Friday 22 March proudly wearing orange ribbons which signified respect for all cultures throughout the week.
The event, which was celebrated right across Victoria, coincided with the United Nations Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, which ran from 19 – 23 March.
Students took part in cultural workshops, such as Indonesian and German ‘selfie’ stations, heena hand painting, traditional cultural games, and Angklung music, cultural diversity co-ordinator Zahra Mousawi said.
They also participated in German and Indonesian Kahoots and cultural art workshops, as well as soccer and rugby games, and the canteen featured different foods from around the world each day.
“The week culminated in Cultural Dress Day, with students coming to school dressed proudly in cultural dress, and a cultural concert in which Afghani and Samoan students performed amazing songs and dances before a very large and appreciative audience,” Ms Mousawi said.
