A Lyndhurst family is lucky to escape a fire that tore through their home on Sunday evening, 5 May.
Firefighters were called to reports of a garage fire about 7.40pm on Aspendale Place.
A CFA spokesman said the blaze spread to the single storey brick veneer house which was brought under control just before 8pm.
The house was destroyed and investigators are yet to determine the cause of the fire, the spokesman said.
Neighbour Tanaka Nyamvura said she heard loud explosive sounds. “The house was well alight. It all started with three big bangs and as I ran outside my room, I saw a big orange flash.”
“That’s how I knew our neighbour’s house was burning and I proceeded to call triple-zero.”
She said she said hello to the victims of the house fire regularly: “When I last spoke to them they said they will need to rebuild.”
Ms Nyamvura said the garage and part of the house where destroyed.
