Sign curve may be flattening

One new case of Covid-19 has been reported in Casey City, bringing its total to 56, according to state health department figures.

Across the state, no new deaths were reported in the 24 hours to Wednesday 6 May. To date, 18 people have died from coronavirus in Victoria.

In neighbouring municipalities, 15 infections have been reported in Greater Dandenong, 16 in Cardinia and 38 in Frankston.

The total number of Covid-19 cases in Victoria stands at 1440 which was made up of 760 men and 680 women, with people aged from babies to their early nineties.

Meanwhile, Victoria Police officers reported fining 33 people flouting restricted activity and isolation rules in the 24 hours to Wednesday 6 May including multiple prohibited gatherings in private residences and public spaces

Police have also conducted 1139 spot checks in the 24 hours to Wednesday 6 May across the state as part of Operation Sentinel.


More than 162,000 tests have been completed with many more samples still being processed as part of Victoria’s testing blitz.

The new confirmed cases include four new cases of Covid-19 at a Melbourne meat processing facility, taking the total number of cases in this cluster to 49. The department is working closely with the company, which agreed to close their facility for 14 days as a precaution to ensure all required steps are taken – including thorough contact tracing, identifying all close contacts, widespread testing and precautionary cleaning.

All staff have been tested or is in the process of being tested. All staff are being provided with further information about potential exposure to coronavirus in the workplace, symptoms and quarantine requirements.

A staff member at a Bacchus Marsh aged care facility has also tested positive for coronavirus. The staff member at Grant Lodge, part of Djerriwarrh Health Services, was asymptomatic but was tested on Saturday as part of Victoria’s expanded screening program.

Other staff that has interacted with the positive worker are being tested and sent home for isolation. The facility has also been closed for isolation and thorough cleaning is occurring. All 24 residents are being tested and their families advised.

There are 145 confirmed cases of coronavirus in Victoria that may have been acquired through community transmission. Currently eight people are in hospital, including six patients in intensive care while 1321 people have recovered.
