Covid climbs

Coronavirus infections have climbed to 21 active cases in Casey City, according to the latest health data.

Victoria notched up its 15th consecutive day of double-digit growth – with cases rising by 73 to 2231. Of those, 1839 people have recovered from the virus.

Of the new cases nine are linked to outbreaks, 19 have been identified through routine testing and 42 are under investigation. Three new cases have been detected in returned travellers in hotel quarantine.

In nearby council areas, Greater Dandenong had three active cases of the virus while Cardinia had zero.

Across the state, 15 people were in hospital – up by six since Tuesday 30 June, with one patient in intensive care.

There were 281 confirmed cases believed to be related to community transmission in the state.

The State has announced targeted restrictions for a number of Melbourne suburbs in 10 postcodes that have experienced a spike in positive coronavirus cases. The restricted postcodes are 3012, 3021, 3032, 3038, 3042, 3046, 3047, 3055, 3060 and 3064.

From 11.59pm on Wednesday 1 July, these postcodes must follow stay at home directions until 29 July.

People who live in these restricted postcodes are only allowed to go out for four reasons: shopping for food and supplies, care and caregiving, exercise and study or work – if unable to work or study from home.

For people living outside these restricted postcodes, there are only four reasons to go into those postcodes: shopping for food and supplies, care and caregiving, exercise and study or work.

People who live in these postcodes cannot have visitors to their home, or visit other homes, except for caregiving or compassionate reasons, or receiving services.
