The number of active cases of Covid-19 in Casey has dropped significantly to 205 cases, according to the state’s latest health data.
On Wednesday 19 August, 349 cases had been listed as currently active within Casey, but that number dropped by 144 on Friday 21 August.
Victoria recorded 179 new cases of Covid-19 in the 24 hours to 21 August, with the total number of cases now at 17,852.
Forty-two of the new cases are linked to outbreaks or complex cases and 137 are under investigation.
Neighbouring local government areas have also seen cases drop with Greater Dandenong now at 125 active cases while Cardinia had 43.
The state’s total active cases have also dropped to 4421 – down 2853 cases in the 48 hours to Friday 21 August.
However, there have been nine new deaths from Covid-19 reported including one man in his 60s, one woman in her 70s, two women in their 80s, two men in their 80s, one women in her 90s, one man in his 90s and one man in his 100s.
There are 626 hospital patients with Covid-19, with 40 in intensive care.
Meanwhile, Victoria Police issued 144 fines to individuals for breaching the Chief Health Officer directions the 24 hours to Friday 21 August including 30 for failing to wear a face covering, eight at vehicle checkpoints, and 40 for curfew breaches.
Examples of people breaching the rules include:• A group of males who were intercepted driving from Werribee to Dandenong to visit friends.
• A male from Tarneit who was located at Heidelberg Railway Station and could not provide a valid reason to be out.
• A woman intercepted driving in North Melbourne who resides in the Port Phillip area. When police questioned her she advised she was picking up a friend to take them to another friend’s house.
