Maramba Primary School students braved the cold on Friday 14 May to take steps towards a safer, healthier lifestyle.
Around 100 students from the school participated in National Walk Safely to School Day.
Now in its 22nd year, National Walk Safely to School Day is an annual event that promotes road safety, health, public transport and the environment by encouraging students to walk and commute safely to school.
Maramba students met up at various points in the streets surrounding the school, before heading in together in small groups, chaperoned by parents and teachers in fluoro vests.
Viraaj, a sustainability leader at Maramba Primary School, praised the participation of the students involved.
“I want to thank all the people who walked to school,” he said.
“My job is a big responsibility, but I do it with all my heart. Today it was fun, everybody walking to school.”
Student Joseph said he had enjoyed the activity.
“It was fun walking with my teacher to school today,” he said.
Kids made the most of the extra time with their friends.
They ran through the gates, apparently eager to get started on the school day – and reporter DANIELLE KUTCHEL was on scene to witness the emotions.
