Back open for business

Four businesses across Berwick have reopened for trading after being named Covid-19 exposure sites.

On Saturday 28 August, the Department of Health listed Mama Boys Pizza, Fishtastic, Foodworks Berwick and Australian Butchers Store Berwick as tier two exposure sites.

The businesses were required to have all employees tested urgently.

Ishrath, co-owner of Mama Boys Pizza on Bemersyde Drive, said the store had closed immediately on Friday 27 and Saturday 28 August after receiving the news.

The store was deep-cleaned and reopened per departmental advice on Sunday 29 August.

“All our staff tested negative, thank God,” he said.

A staff member at Fishtastic, which is next door to Mama Boys, said all staff there had also tested negative and the business has since reopened.

She said the store is safe for customers to visit.

The same sentiment was echoed by a staff member at Foodworks, a few doors down from Fishtastic and Mama Boys.

“Everything is OK,” he said, adding all staff had tested negative for Covid and were ready to serve customers again.

At Australian Butchers Store on Enterprise Avenue, the store manager said the shop had been cleaned thoroughly and all staff received negative results to their Covid tests.

The store had been notified early Friday morning of a visit by a positive case, and quickly reviewed video footage to identify which staff had been at work at that time.

Fortunately, she explained, the customer and staff all wore masks and adhered to Covid regulations.

“They did everything right and we did everything right,” she said.

“We were lucky the customer did the right thing.”

She wants shoppers to know it’s perfectly safe for customers to continue shopping there, with all staff regularly cleaning and sanitising the area.
