The City of Casey is working to install more signs in Wilson Botanic Park in Berwick to clarify when masks should be worn.

The Chief Health Officer’s guidelines state that those engaging in “strenuous physical exercise” do not need to wear a mask.

Examples of such exercise include running, jogging, swimming or cycling.

Notably, walking is not on the strenuous exercise list.

A spokesperson for the City of Casey said the council took Covid-19 compliance seriously.

“Mask are a mandatory requirement both indoors and outdoors, however some exceptions do apply,” said Angie Peresso, manager of active communities at the City of Casey.

“If you witness people in breach of the Covid-19 rules, we urge you to contact Victoria Police on 131 444 (selection option 3), call the Covid-19 Hotline, and make Council aware.”

Victoria Police said it was enforcing the Chief Health Officer’s public health directions.

“Victoria Police will fine people for deliberate, obvious and blatant breaches of the CHO directions,” the organisation said in a statement.
