The Berwick Evening VIEW Club contended with Covid-19, as did all other social organisations in Victoria.
But the good news is that the club managed to stick together and by their final formal meeting of the year, inducted seven new members.
As a special guest speaker at the November meeting Learning For Life program coordinator for The Smith Family in the Dandenong area June Michael, gave a talk about the program and how sponsorships help needy students there.
The Berwick Evening VIEW Club sponsors three students, possibly not from this area as they remain anonymous to the clubs.
Ms Michael explained that schools nominate families to apply for the sponsorships.
After selection, parents are required to provide reports on their child’s progress throughout the year.
As family partnership coordinator, Ms Michael works to find the best solutions to help the students succeed, overseeing 1200 students at both primary and secondary level across eleven schools.
Funds given help with supplies and excursions.
In addition, reading and other tutoring programs are provided through the schools in the program to improve learning and help transform lives.
To cap off the year, members, new members, prospective members and partners attended a buffet lunch, hosted at the home of Anne and Kevin Kennelly, to celebrate all who worked to keep the club going and to look forward to a much better 2022.
